Car insurance: A necessity?

Is having auto insurance really necessary? I mean, it is expensive to repair a car after an accident, but why do most states make it illegal to NOT have insurance? This seems forced to me

  1. Yes because it's so easy, even a caveman can do it.

  2. Its to make money for the insurance companies of course, I'm a safe driver, have never been in an accident yet I still need insurance to legally drive my car. whats up with that?

  3. car insurance is like health insurance, your not sick all the time but when you are, its nice to have it there to foot the bill. Same ideology with cars, its all good and dandy till some ass rear ends you.

  4. It also pays for other cars if you are to blame for their damage.

  5. Yeah, it is illegal not to have insurance, which is stupid. :/ It'd be cheaper NOT to have it... >_>

  6. If you can't afford car insurance, then thats a pretty good sign that you can't afford a car.

  7. I have to second what Jackku said. Car insurance is generally pretty affordable. It's annoying to pay for something that you don't use for years in a row, but there's always the "what if"

  8. I agree that it's rather ridiculous for it to be -illegal- not to have insurance. Like Francisco up there, I'm a very safe driver. I've never once been in an accident, and I shell out $100 a month for insurance.

  9. Insurance is a great thing to have, but for it to be illegal NOT to have? I just don't think that's okay.

  10. Better question: if you live in a big city, is a car really necessary?

  11. Totally agree, car insurance is a nessesity for everyone. Imagine bumping into a Rolls Royce accidently one day and having to fork out the repayments. Unlikely...
